PARTNERSHIPS
Prometheus and HyTerra sign a historic deal to deliver purified geologic hydrogen to commercial customers by 2026
21 Apr 2026

A landmark partnership is taking shape beneath the Kansas plains. HyTerra and Prometheus Hydrogen have signed a deal to demonstrate the first complete geologic hydrogen supply chain in the United States. This move shifts an emerging sector from exploration promise to real-world delivery.
Under the agreement, HyTerra will supply raw gas from its Nemaha project. These wells, sitting above the Mid-Continental Rift, have recorded hydrogen concentrations reaching 96.1 percent. Prometheus will then purify and transport the fuel using solid-state technology. This method bypasses the need for high-pressure pipelines or conventional infrastructure.
The significance of this deal runs deep. While global investment in geologic hydrogen has surpassed $1 billion, the industry has yet to show a full chain from extraction to end user. A successful delivery would be the first of its kind. It would move the global conversation from theoretical surveys to commercial proof.
Prometheus already counts the government and defense sectors as clients. For them, a successful demonstration opens the door to massive supply expansion. Meanwhile, HyTerra holds over 80,000 acres of leases in the region. Production testing at its McCoy 1 well is scheduled for mid-2026, bringing the company closer to generating real revenue.
Energy investors and industrial buyers are watching for exactly this kind of milestone. If the two companies meet their December target, the Nemaha project could become a national benchmark. It would prove that geologic hydrogen can move from the ground to the grid.
